A Brief History of Walnut Creek
Walnut Creek was first explored by Spanish explorers in the 1770s. It then became part of a Mexican land grant in the early 1800s. By the time the Gold Rush hit, in 1849, people starting flocking to our town. By 1878, the Central Pacific Railroad arrived. By 1914, an electric commuter line was added, connecting Walnut Creek to nearby Oakland.
Today, Walnut Creek is home to about 71,000 residents, about 2/3 of which use a personal vehicle to commute every day to and from work!
